If you want your jewelry to last forever please follow these simple rules:
- Clean your jewelry with a soft cotton cloth to remove any surface dust. You can also use a extra soft toothbrush to remove any dust that might be hiding in crevices or clasps. Use the cloth to polish the surfaces and to clean any beads on the jewelry. This may be all you need to do to maintain your jewelry and keep it in good shape.
- There are also jewelry cleaners available for costume jewelry. If you decide to use a cleaner please make sure it specifies its usage is for fashion jewelry. Fashion jewelry cannot handle some of the chemicals used to clean fine jewelry, so make sure you know what your cleaner is made of before using it. As long as you follow the directions you should be able to clean your jewelry without any problem.
- Your costume jewelry should never come in contact with ammonia, vinegar, acid and alcohol as these will corrode your jewelry quickly to a non-repairable condition. Common substances to keep away from your jewelry are perfume, hairspray and lotion as they can easily alter the finish of your fashion jewelry. Try to remove your jewelry if you know you will be in contact with water. Remove your rings when you wash your hands. Remember that moisture can cause rust or pits to form on your jewelry so remember to never wear fashion jewelry during a bath or shower or while swimming.
- It is also important to put your costume jewelry away carefully. Costume jewelry can easily be scratched or damaged by coming in contact with other jewelry or hard surfaces. A good way to store your jewelry is in a transparent plastic cover or a clear Ziploc bag. If any stones were to fall off you will easily spot it in a clear bag.
